A little while ago, some of our team went to visit the award-winning hotel and garden estate, ‘The Newt in Somerset’. There, a Roman Villa has been constructed based on archaeological remains found within the estate’s grounds near Bruton in Somerset.
The villa opened in July 2021, and we went to investigate the site for the publication Villa Ventorum: a Roman villa reborn. There were many wonderful sights, from the painted baths and ceilings to the vineyard that surrounds the villa and the views across the landscape. On site, there is also fine dining, and experiences such as Cyder tastings and workshops to be enjoyed.
