Sir Horace Jones: Architect of Tower Bridge

We recently published an illustrated biography of the architect Sir Horace Jones, a much overlooked figure in London’s architectural history.

David began researching Horace Jones after he realised that both his home in north London and his office in Leadenhall Market were designed and built by the architect but could find little about him. For over twenty years Jones was the architect and surveyor to the City of London, during which time he designed many important buildings, including Billingsgate, Leadenhall and Smithfield Markets, and was involved of many others, such as the Holborn Viaduct, which formed the first bridge over the Fleet River. From 1882 to 1884 he was also president of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
