The Hart of Waste

An engaging company story of the staff, friends and family of Cleansing Service Group.

We all create waste. It is part of our modern consumer society with its throw away packaging and countless other disposable products. Yet as soon as we place our rubbish in the bin at the back door or take our bottles and newspaper to the local recycling point, we have no wish to know anything more about it.

This is the story of Cleansing Services Group. The Company is steeped in heritage and has grown to become the second largest privately owned waste management company in the UK. In 1934 Edgar Hart bought a second-hand Dennis tanker for £5 from Wokingham Rural Council and Hampshire Cleansing Services was born. An ambitious and enterprising individual, Edgar had the know-how to foster and grow the enterprise over a number of decades.

The success of the organisation is demonstrated by its recent rating as the 60th most profitable company in the Sunday Times Profit-Track 100 table for the UK's 100 private firms with the fastest growing profits. The Group continues to actively embrace new technologies and equipment and endeavours to innovate and develop new solutions to the problems facing the waste industry.
