The Perse School

To celebrate its quatercentenary in 2015, The Perse produced this beautifully designed portrait of a school that is at once internationally-renowned and essentially local. Over its long history the School has grown from modest beginnings to encompass three thriving institutions, offering children a broad and innovative education from nursery to sixth form.

The Perse School shows how the School has retained its deep roots in the community as it has changed from Grammar School to Direct Grant to fully Independent status. Following the precedent set by the dynamic Dr Rouse, Headmaster 1902-28, the School has developed its own traditions in pioneering teaching methods, inclusiveness and academic excellence. Other major themes covered in the book include extra-curricular activities – both intellectual and physical – the School buildings old and new, and the achievements of alumni. The changing nature of a Perse education emerges strongly from this narrative.

Complete with extensive material drawn from the school archives, as well as personal accounts of individual experiences, this is the first full-colour volume on this remarkable school, and will appeal both to alumni and all those interested in the social history of Cambridge and its institutions.
